Researchers Reveal That You Can Develop Fatty Liver By Consuming Apparently Harmless Drinks

People who are overweight or obese are usually those who develop a build-up of fat in the liver. That’s colloquially known as fatty liver, which can lead to much more serious issues such as liver failure or cirrhosis.

You surely should not think that it’s out of your league to prevent the development of a fatty liver. What you drink or eat can also contribute to the condition, which is why we’re glad to share what a new study has to say.

Stay away from high fructose corn syrup

A new study that Healthline reveals and that was presented at ENDO 2022, which is the annual meeting of the Endocrine Society, claims that high fructose corn syrup can lead to or increase the risk of developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

In other words, it’s pretty easy to get high fructose corn syrup into your body. This substance can be found in processed foods, candies, and more. But if you enjoy a soda or a juice drink when you watch your favorite show on Netflix, for instance, you might be at risk of developing fatty liver.

Data from 3,292 individuals were gathered between 2017 and 2018, while the individuals were added to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The researchers found that 70 percent of those who got the most fructose dealt with the highest spread of NAFLD. Last but not least, the scientists found that those who consume lower levels of fructose have fewer chances of dealing with NAFLD compared to those who get a lot of the substance in their bodies.

Dr. Hillel Tobias, who’s the director of hepatology from the Concorde Medical Group in New York and who is also associated with Lenox Hill Hospital, explained for Healthline:

The Endocrine Society presentation found a direct relationship in all segments of the population between the extent of high fructose consumption and the incidence of fatty liver disease.

The new study wasn’t published or peer-reviewed yet.
