OnePlus Co-Founder Aims To Change The Modern, “Cold” Technology

Carl Pei, the co-founder of Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, has big plans for the future, including a new business plan.

The entrepreneur founded a new tech corporation known as “Nothing” in 2020. The company will introduce its first product sometime in June. It’s a pair of wireless earbuds they call Ear 1.

While the official specs for Nothing’s earphones haven’t yet been made public, the entrepreneur suggests that they will be minimalistic in features.

He said that, instead of “20 different levels” of noise cancellation, people only require a maximum of two or three settings.

Pei also mentioned that the company’s products would have a “retro-futuristic” design, also mentioning that the company worked hard on polishing its design philosophy.

He made some bold statements regarding the products his team is working on:

“Products are not just cold electronics. They’re designed by people and intelligently used by people. Unfortunately, it feels like product companies (today) are run by large corporations.”

OnePlus is mainly owned by China’s Oppo, a member of BBK Electronics. It gained popularity for manufacturing accessible Android smartphones with decent levels of performance.

Pei said goodbye to OnePlus in October to begin his new hardware startup.

He hopes that Nothing, which is based in London, will impact the consumer tech industry similarly to how Apple’s iMac G3 did.

“Today, it’s like the PC industry in the 80s and 90s, where everybody made grey boxes,” he explained.

His ideas sound bulletproof to us, as we’d like to see a change in the market. We’d like to see some extra life and jolliness brought to our devices!

Technology shouldn’t just be pieces of hardware plus software that you use as a necessity (and maybe even get addicted to).
