NASA Reveals New Black Hole Sonifications – Listen NOW

Have you ever wondered what a black hole could sound like? Those huge, dark, and dominating behemoths of the Universe can be considered extremely sinister and evil. Nothing that comes nearby could possibly escape a black hole.

NASA has revealed new black hole sonifications that have the potential of raising the hair from your arms. They simply sound as we said above: dark and sinister. Or maybe we’re being too pessimistic. After all, black holes can also have very positive roles in the Universe.

Feel free to listen to NASA’s sonifications of the black hole located at the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster, which is located 240 million light-years away from us:

NASA’s explanation on the video says it very well:

Since 2003, the black hole at the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster has been associated with sound. This is because astronomers discovered that pressure waves sent out by the black hole caused ripples in the cluster’s hot gas that could be translated into a note — one that humans cannot hear some 57 octaves below middle C. Now a new sonification brings more notes to this black hole sound machine. This new sonification — that is, the translation of astronomical data into sound — is being released for NASA’s Black Hole Week this year.

Considering the current technology that mankind has, there’s no objective reason to believe that it would be safe, in any situation, to approach a black hole. Although there are some scientists theorizing that these cosmic monsters could represent portals to other timelines or even universes, those are nothing more than just theories.

The American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson confirmed if it was still necessary, that falling into a black hole would surely kill a person. But for the moment, space agencies still have a lot of trouble to even reaching the nearest planet to ours. The closest black hole to Earth is much, much farther away!
