Microsoft Prepares an App Store for Mobile Gaming

Gaming on portable platforms such as iPhones, Android devices, and tablets has grown in popularity tremendously in recent years, and it shall continue likewise. Therefore, it’s obviously in the best interest of more and more companies to keep investing in the mobile gaming area. The trend will continue like that for a long time, and only the gods of gaming know when it will stop.

Microsoft also has some interesting plans for those who like to enjoy a good gaming session on the go. The Redmond-based colossus is preparing the release of an app store dedicated to mobile gaming on iOS and Android devices, as XDA has spotted on the Financial Times.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer speaks out

The information is brought by Phil Spencer, the boss of Xbox, to be more precise. If his claim is true, Microsoft will put the plan into action as soon as 2024 if Activision Blizzard’s acquisition is cleared until that time.

During his interview for Financial Times, Phil Spencer stated, as XDA quotes:

We want to be in a position to offer Xbox and content from both us and our third-party partners across any screen where somebody would want to play,

Today, we can’t do that on mobile devices, but we want to build towards a world that we think will be coming where those devices are opened up.

What’s for sure is that Microsoft getting involved in the gaming world doesn’t represent anything new. Back in February, both the famous tech colossus and NVIDIA announced a partnership over a period of 10 years to add Xbox PC games to the cloud gaming platform GeForce NOW.

Cloud gaming services represent another important way that gaming enthusiasts join and compete against each other in mobile games. GeForce Now, for instance, which is NVIDIA’s service, has over 25 million clients in about 100 countries.
