Mercedes’ MBUX Infotainment System Gets ChatGPT; Check Out Features

ChatGPT will soon be available to Mercedes-Benz customers in the United States, adding even another level of opulence to their already lavish automobiles. The manufacturer of automobiles is enhancing the functionality of its MBUX infotainment system by including a conversational AI agent developed by OpenAI. However, the purpose of it is not entirely obvious. After all, an automobile is an environment that is quite restricted in its scope.

Beginning today (June 16), owners of MBUX-compatible devices in the United States will have the opportunity to activate ChatGPT capability by opting into a beta test program. Because of this, the extremely flexible huge language model will be able to enhance the car’s conversational abilities. You may sign up by telling your automobile anything along the lines of “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program.”

What are your thoughts about such an upgrade for Mercedes-Benz? What would you like to see in the future?

Mercedes-Benz stated:

Soon, participants who ask the Voice Assistant for details about their destination, to suggest a new dinner recipe, or to answer a complex question, will receive a more comprehensive answer – while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

As is customary, the benefits of the technology are largely speculative, and it is quite unlikely that any motorist requested this capacity. It’s possible that Mercedes has simply grown weary of managing its own voice interface service and would like to delegate responsibility for it to a different company. And such a thing could be totally understandable as many car manufacturers follow a similar approach.

However, to create the effect of a nesting doll, the user interface of MBUX, which is part of the Mercedes Me app, prominently displays the phrase “Powered by ChatGPT in Microsoft AI.” So, what’s going to do?

The information about voice commands that is gathered is, in point of fact, saved in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, where it is de-identified and analyzed. So, this could be a big no for some users (sorry, Mercedes!).
