It’s the End of the Road for Apple’s “Dark Sky” App

Those Apple users who have been relying on the “Dark Sky” app to provide them with information about the weather will have to find a suitable alternative starting today. On the first day of 2023, Apple shut down the software for good after it removed it from its App Store a few months ago, according to MacRumors.

Dark Sky is a popular weather app developed by Apple that is known for its accurate and detailed weather forecasts. The app uses data from a network of weather stations, radar, and other sources to provide users with up-to-date information on current and future weather conditions.

One of the standout features of Dark Sky was its ability to provide hyperlocal weather forecasts, with forecasts customized to a user’s exact location. The app also offers alerts for severe weather events, such as thunderstorms and tornadoes, which can be particularly useful for people living in areas prone to such events.

Multiple alternatives are available

Luckily, there’s no use in despairing if Dark Sky was your favorite weather app, as there are lots of alternatives out there if you’re an Apple customer!

You could also try out apps such as:

  • The Weather Channel: The Weather Channel is a well-known weather app that provides users with current and future weather forecasts, as well as alerts for severe weather events.
  • AccuWeather: AccuWeather is a popular weather app that offers hourly, daily, and 15-day forecasts, as well as real-time alerts for severe weather events.
  • Weather Underground: Weather Underground is a weather app that utilizes data from a network of over 250,000 personal weather stations to provide hyperlocal forecasts.
  • Yahoo Weather: Yahoo Weather is a visually appealing weather app that offers current and future weather forecasts, as well as interactive maps and alerts for severe weather events.

As of 2021, it is estimated that there are over 2.2 million apps available in the App Store, the official app store for Apple products such as the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
