Is Online the Safest Way to Spend Christmas With Our Loved Ones?

As of now, the US is dealing with a surge in COVID-19 cases, and vaccination is the key to salvation. The US has about 107,000 new infections every day, which is a smaller number in comparison with 150,000 from last month. The rates of hospitalizations and deaths are also in decline.

Fauci, however, is sure that a rise in numbers will come back. He stated: “The way to keep it down, to make that turnaround continue to go down, is to … get people vaccinated. When you have 70 million people in the country who are eligible to be vaccinated who are not yet vaccinated, that’s the danger zone right there.”

Winter is just around the corner, and experts have talked about the double threat COVID-19 poses on the health care system. But right now, it is too early to know if it’s safe for Americans to get together for the holidays.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on continuing to get those numbers down, and not try to jump ahead by weeks or months and say what we’re going to do at a particular time. Let’s focus like a laser on continuing to get those cases down, and we can do it by people getting vaccinated.”

CDC has recently updated their page of guidance on holiday celebrations, and they are urging people to get the vaccine doses before the holidays. People should also wear a mask indoors in public areas. The safest way might be to celebrate the holidays virtually, or at least 6 feet apart from others. The CDC also recommends people to delay traveling until they are fully vaccinated.

About 57% of the total US population is fully vaccinated.
