iPhone 14 Pro’s New Graphics Processor Was Removed, Here’s Why

According to a new report, Apple had different plans with iPhone 14 Pro. Apparently, the company wanted a significant generational upgrade to the graphics capabilities of the 14 Pro, but it was forced to quit any plans due to “unprecedented” errors. Was that the reason?

The Graphics Processor That Almost Made It

According to The Information, Apple developers were too confident when they added some new sleek features to the graphics processor created for the iPhone 14 Pro. That included the fantastic ray tracing, a terrific lighting method that enables games to have an even higher level of realism (could you even imagine such power on an iPhone?!).

As a result, the battery life and thermal management of the iPhone 14 Pro prototype were discovered to be substantially worse than anticipated (what a shame!).

But there’s more.

Based on other reports, Apple identified the problem in the iPhone 14 Pro’s GPU late in the development cycle. What did it mean for the iPhone? That issue forced the phone to quickly pivot substantially to the GPU from the previous year’s iPhone 13 series.

As previously said, such a thing is unprecedented with Apple, which is quite surprising and unusual. And because of the mistake, the company reorganized its graphics processor team and removed certain managers from the project.

The recent report comes after other sources discussed how Apple’s chip design team has dealt with a disappointing shortage in recent years. Since 2019, the business has lost hundreds of important personnel, in addition to internal conflicts and legal disputes with semiconductor startups.
