Instagram’s Chief Shockingly Claims That the Social Network Is No Longer a Photo Sharing App

With over one billion active users on Instagram, most of them are using the service for one thing only: visualizing and sharing photos. Whether they belong to models, institutions, ordinary people, exciting activities, political purposes, or more, Instagram photos play a crucial role in the social network’s existence.

Instagram is aiming to invest more time and effort in the video, entertainment, and shopping areas. The chief Adam Mosseri himself comes with some more-or-less shocking statements, adding that the Facebook-owned social network is no longer a photo-sharing app.

Instagram’s chief affirms it with no hesitation:

We are no longer a photo-sharing app,
The number one reason people say they use Instagram, in research, is to be entertained.

While admitting that TikTok and YouTune are granting a huge competition for Instagram, Mosseri says that Facebook’s social network must evolve. He added:

And so people are looking to Instagram to be entertained, and there’s stiff competition, and there is more to do and we have to embrace that,
And that means change.

As Omnicoreagency.com reveals, Instagram reached a staggering amount of 1.074 billion users for the current year, meaning a 22.9% increase compared to 2020. Instagram has already evolved tremendously from the once photo-sharing platform used predominantly by teenagers. In the present, Instagram is easily among the most popular social media websites in the world.

As for Facebook, the network is way up ahead of Instagram, looking at the social networking part: with roughly 2.85 billion monthly active users for the first quarter of 2021, Facebook sits comfortably as the biggest social network in the world.

However, there shouldn’t be any surprises here, as Facebook has way more interesting features than Instagram, except the photo-sharing part.
