Heart Attack Risk Could Increase If You Consume Cannabis

A lot of people prefer to believe that it’s safe to smoke cannabis from time to time. But in reality, pretty much everything that causes addiction is also bad for you.

A new study brings bad news for some of the adults who smoke cannabis. The new research that CNN informs us about reveals that those who consumed cannabis within the last 30 days and are below 45 years of age had to deal with roughly two times more heart attacks than those adults who didn’t consume the psychoactive drug.

Over 33,000 adults analyzed

To get to the new conclusion, the researchers analyzed data from more than 33,000 individual adults aged from 18 to 44 years old. Of the 17% of persons who said that they’ve consumed cannabis in the previous month, 1.3% of them suffered from a heart attack at some point. On the other side, only 0.8% of those who didn’t smoke cannabis reported the same.

Dr. Karim Ladha, the lead study author, contradicts the widespread idea that consuming cannabis cannot be harmful to the body. He said, as quoted by CNN:

There’s increasing evidence that this could potentially be harmful to you, both in the short term and the long term.

Another study even claims that cannabis use is linked to the habit of smoking. Furthermore, former smokers seem to be more inclined towards cannabis use, depression, and alcohol consumption.
In other words, it would be naive to believe that smoking cannabis can lead to anything good. We should always remember that health is one of the most important things we have in this life. However, cannabis use, alcohol consumption, smoking, and depression are all prevalent phenomenons in our society.
