Hangar 13 Confirms Development Of New Mafia Game

Although the release date and supported platforms for the next Mafia game have not been announced, Hangar 13 has confirmed the production of the game.
A new Mafia game is in development by Hangar 13, the studio responsible for the third game in the series, as confirmed by 2K Games. The corporation has officially announced the effort in honor of the original’s 20th anniversary; during this period, the classic will be available for free on Steam.

Currently, there is a lack of information on the project’s specifics. Back in October of 2016 we were treated to Mafia III, which brought us to 1968’s New Bordeaux. The uproar caused by the episode’s inferiority to its predecessors signaled a new direction in the process of reviving the series’ beginnings. The seeds for this announcement were planted by the fantastic remake of Mafia and the remastering of Mafia II.

 

What’s taking so long with Hangar 13?

Since Mafia III’s release, very little new information has emerged. Respected Bloomberg reporter Jason Scheider published a lengthy piece in 2018 detailing the group’s creative process. Their next game, codenamed Rhapsody, is a Cold War espionage narrative set in the heart of Berlin in which a Jewish Russian is recruited by a U.S. intelligence organization. What at first, glance seemed to be a traditional sandbox evolved into a superb action game. The protagonist has the ability to manipulate musical energy to achieve feats of superpower. It floundered for months before finally being discontinued.

In 2020, though, everything shifted. Take-Two CEO Karl Slatoff told investors that Mafia was still a key franchise for the company. After multiple job postings at Hangar 13 hinted to the creation of a new open-world Triple-A game, these comments made sense. This time, the Mafia was fresh on the scene.
