Facebook Messenger Won’t Work Anymore for Apple Smartwatches

Those of you who are fans of using Facebook Messenger directly from your wrist will have to cope with some bad news. Meta has decided to remove the app from Apple Watch devices, and it didn’t even make an official public announcement.

The change is being made quietly by Meta, according to XDA. Some users already began receiving notifications regarding the removal of the app from their portable devices. Luckily, there is still time to get used to the idea if you’re one of those who were using Facebook Messenger from an Apple Watch smartwatch.

Messenger will be removed on May 31

As a Reddit user has found, and as XDA quotes, the notification announcing the big change sounds like this:

After May 31st, Messenger won’t be available as an Apple Watch app, but you can still get Messenger notifications on your watch.

Of course, people demanded some answers from Meta on the subject. It wasn’t long until a spokesperson of the company explained, as Review Geek quotes:

People can still receive Messenger notifications on their Apple Watch when paired, but starting at the end of May they will no longer be able to respond from their watch. But they can continue using Messenger on their iPhone, desktop and the web.

The app can be downloaded at any time from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Using it remains free of charge, and it’s highly probable that it will remain likewise for a long period of time.
