Being willing to buy a social network such as Twitter isn’t too surprising. There are hundreds of millions of people who use Twitter. But the amount of money that Elon Musk offers for such an attempt will surely leave you speechless.
Elon Musk is clearly in favor of free speech, and he’s one of those famous people who are upset that many social networks nowadays are trying to censor it. Perhaps we’ve all seen those situations when just by writing a certain word you can be considered racist, xenophobic, and so on.
Engadget.com reveals that the famous businessman Elon Musk offers an incredible amount of $43 billion to buy Twitter. That’s more than 40 times the amount paid by Facebook to buy Instagram ten years ago. It’s also more than half the amount paid by Facebook for buying WhatsApp in 2014.
Elon Musk said, as the same source mentioned above quotes:
I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy.
The billionaire also said, as Engadget also quotes:
I am offering to buy 100 percent of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash, a 54 percent premium over the day before I began investing in Twitter and a 38 percent premium over the day before my investment was publicly announced,
My offer is my best and final offer.
Donald Trump has also raised awareness about some companies trying to cut the right to free expression. The former US President considered that things were a lot better in the USA when people could express their thoughts openly.
