Cyber Thieves are Getting Better at Overcoming 2FA Security

When the two-factor authentication (2FA) security measure started to get implemented across various services across the web, everybody thought that their online businesses were as safe as they could be. But unfortunately, hackers always look for improved methods to crack security measures.

You may know the drill by now regarding 2FA: besides the password you choose, you can also enter the second layer of security. In this way, a code will be sent to your device that you’ll have to later enter so that companies will be sure that it’s you who’s trying to log in to your account.

Phishing toolkits are used for bypassing security

According to Gizmodo.com, new research reveals that phishing toolkits are used for bypassing authentication protections. The evil programs are used for phishing and stealing 2FA login data of users who access some major websites.

The toolkits work by stealing the 2FA authentication cookies of the victim, meaning those files that remain on the browser when the authentication process occurs. Malware meant for stealing data can infect the victim’s computer, or the theft itself can happen in transit, along with the password.
