Coco Lee’s Tragic Death at Only 48 – What Happened to the Hong Kong Singer?

Coco Lee, a singer, and composer with a highly successful career in Asia, took her own life on Wednesday (July 5), according to statements released by her siblings. She was only 48.

Ferren Lee (real name) was born in Hong Kong, but her family eventually migrated to the United States. She began her career as a singer after achieving the position of first runner-up in a singing competition that was organized on a yearly basis in Hong Kong by the broadcaster TVB. She published her first album when she was just 19 years old in the year 1994.

Despite the fact that Lee began her career as a Mandopop singer, she has now expanded her repertoire to include albums sung in both Cantonese and English during the course of her almost 30-year career. Her commanding voice and electrifying performances in concert brought her the most fame.

Although, CoCo sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly, that demon inside of her took the better of her, reads an official statement.

According to her sister, Lee made an attempt to put an end to her life over the weekend when she was at home, and she had to be brought to the hospital. It was reported that she had been in a coma and that she passed away on Wednesday (July 5).

Coco Lee was also the first Chinese artist to make it into the American market, and in December 1999, her English song “Do You Want My Love” reached number four on Billboard’s Hot Dance Breakouts list.

She stated back in March that she had to relearn how to walk after getting surgery for a leg injury that was caused when she went overboard during a dance rehearsal in October 2022. The ailment was prompted by her falling overboard during the exercise. Rest in peace, Coco Lee!
