Australia Imposes Tighter Restrictions in Sydney

Australia has had so far more than 32,588 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infections, and 915 people lost their lives due to complications. Since the outbreak in Wuhan in 2019, the island country has tried hard to keep the coronavirus away, and health officials have imposed several lockdown measures. It seems that New South Wales State has had a surge in coronavirus infections, and authorities decided to impose more severe restrictions in Sydney.

The situation in Sydney could go out of control

Gladys Berejiklian, state premier, has called the situation in New South Wales a ‘national emergency’ and decided that Sydney inhabitants are to remain at home longer than the end of this month. It was previously decided that the stay-at-home restriction would end on 30 July. State officials want more covid-19 vaccine doses in Sydney, but Australia’s Prime Minister declined the request.

The Delta strain could become dominant

Perhaps the most aggressive variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus yet to be identified, the Delta strain has been on the lips of health officials and scientists ever since its outbreak in India. Recent data also showed that due to the coronavirus pandemic, our life expectancy is smaller. The Delta variant spread from all the way to South Australian states, and authorities decided to enforce lockdown measures.

Health providers also need to help patients suffering from long-term Covid

Apart from helping patients infected with the SARS_CoV-2 virus, health providers need to attend to those who already had the virus. In the U.K, the new guidelines describe what long term Covid is, and the symptoms people have to face, even after 12 weeks since they were diagnosed positive. Some of the symptoms include nausea, tiredness, problems with the bladder, gastro-intestinal and period issues, health problems, hearing and sight issues and more.
