A New Steam App for Phones is Under Development

Gaming has been more and more prevalent for smartphones in recent years, and it is sometimes even more popular than the one for bigger screens such as consoles and PC. Under these circumstances, it becomes necessary for more gaming apps for our phones to exist.

The Steam Community website confirms that a new Steam mobile app has been launched in its beta phase:

Today we’re starting a limited beta of the updated Steam Mobile App. We’ve rebuilt the app on a new framework and modernized the design. (2015 called and wanted their app back.) You’ll still be able to browse the store, get Steam Guard codes, and confirm trades, but now the app comes with QR code sign in, smarter notifications, an improved Library, and multi account support.

The reason for the beta itself is to gather more feedback from the users in order to see what can be further improved. Furthermore, the dev team claims that it can test new assumptions, take into account what the users like and don’t like, and also figure out where things can be fixed.

In fact, the Steam mobile app in question has its roots in a much older one, but it’s now getting updated and ‘renovated.’ If you’re already using the older app, you should join the new meta as well. The devs also ask you to provide your feedback on the update.

Back in 2020, the Steam service had about 120 million monthly active users, which meant a significant increase from only 95 million that it had back in 2019, according to Statista.

People will continue to be added to the beta for the new Steam mobile app, so don’t be impatient if you’re not there already! The dev team will take some time until it can be sure that the update is ready in a stable form and can be distributed to everyone.
